Async Tutoring
Async Tutoring stands for asynchronous, a fancy education term for learning that isn’t live. The challenge with tutoring is scheduling time to help students. Async Tutoring solves this problem by changing tutoring to a non-live conversations. The benefit for the student is that we’ve significantly reduced the cost. The benefit to us is that we can help more students.
How does it work?
After paying for an Async Tutoring session, we will enroll you in our Async Tutoring Moodle course. (This is typically done within 24 hours.) There you will submit a short video explanation of the concept you are struggling with along with some supporting documents (homework, pages from your textbook or notes, etc.) After reviewing your video and documentation, we’ll provide you with the following:
- An email response or short reply video (approximately five minutes) giving some feedback on the topics you are struggling with.
- One (or more) active learning activities to help you better understand the concepts you are struggling with.
- A walk-through video for any of the active learning activities you’ve been given.
- A link to a traditional lecture video (or videos) made by us, which we believe will help.
- Some problems you can work to help you.
- In Moodle, you may then submit a follow up video and any of the completed materials for feedback.
- We will respond again by email or video with any follow-up advice.
The process is completed after the second response from us.
Our goal is always to respond within one business day. But, depending on volume, we may require up to two business days. Async Tutoring is an approach designed to help you with big picture topics and concepts that aren’t making sense.
Online Tutoring
Our approach to online tutoring is meant to maximize the effectiveness of our 50 minute sessions.
How does it work?
After purchasing an online tutoring session, you will be enrolled in our Online Tutoring Moodle Course. Here you will submit a short video explaining the concept(s) you are struggling with along with some supporting documents (homework, pages from your textbook or notes, etc.) After review your video and documentation, we’ll email you to schedule an online session. The session will be within the Online Tutoring Moodle Course through a web conferencing tool called Big Blue Button. Again, sessions are 50 minutes in length. We strive to schedule online sessions within one week of receiving your supporting documentation, based on the mutual coordination of our schedules.
